Genny found Remy in a quiet spot in the garden of the ice cream parlour, where no one else was seated. The garden looked out across the river Tip, which fed into the sea half a mile away.

The sun was gorgeous on the brightly painted wood beneath Genny’s fingertips as she leant on the table, listening to Remy.

“This,” he said, bringing a bag out from his briefcase. “Is Bonnie’s laptop.”

He opened it up and showed Genny a few key items.

“Lots of artwork, not a lot of schoolwork,” he explained. “She painted the sea a lot, which makes sense considering where she lived. There are photos of her and Lewis here. And then this is the most interesting thing I found.”

He opened a webpage and loaded a PhotoGram account.

“Colourinmotion…” Genny read. “That’s the account which messaged Simon Radison.”

“That’s right.”

She digested the revelation.

“But…” She tried to make sense of it. “She said she knew Robin Knightsbridge, which is impossible.”

“I guess she lied to seem more credible,” Remy said. “But I can’t think why she wanted Simon to cover the case.”

“It does seem strange. Was this her only PhotoGram account?”

“No,” he said. “This one was anonymous.” He scrolled through the posts. “Mostly just art and the occasional post about the local cat rescue, Coveside Kitties. But she also had a personal one, look.” He opened another account. “BonBonColbert_1.”

As he scrolled through the social media feed of Bonnie’s personal account, the difference was clear. It was full of pictures of her and her sister, her parents, her university friends and Lewis.

“She didn’t want Simon Radison to know who she was,” Genny summarised. “Otherwise, she would have used her own account.”

“And that’s not all,” he explained, switching back to the first account. “She had messaged a few other people on this account. Firstly, Lee Crawley, and secondly, Charlie Wrightpool, the daughter of Colin Wrightpool the property tycoon.”

“Simon Radison mentioned him in yesterday’s podcast,” Genny said. “And Lee Crawley. I went to see her alone, I hope you don’t mind.”

“You did?”

“You were out with Niamh, I didn’t want to disturb you.”

“I understand,” he said in a tone that implied he didn’t quite understand. “Why did you go to speak to Lee Crawley?”

“I got the impression that she hadn’t quite said everything she wanted to say,” Genny said. “Though I didn’t learn much from her. Just that Robin was a vegetarian who loved to cook, and that she had a few different boyfriends but none of them were ever serious.”

“Well, it was worth a try,” Remy assured her. “But next time you get a lead, let’s see if we can go together. I think it’s better that way, especially as you’re not actually in the police anymore.”

Genny felt like a naughty child being scolded.

She didn’t quite know how to reply.

Maybe he was just irritated with her for bringing up Niamh, although that was the reason why he hadn’t been available to go with her.

“I’m sorry,” she said sheepishly. “I should have waited until we were both available. I just couldn’t think about anything else yesterday evening.
